SUSTAINABLE FARM

M.A.I.S. Onlus - 9/30/2016

Domain of action : Food self-sufficiency

Description:

MAIS Onlus and the farmer cooperative of Ambohitsarabe in Madagascar propose to drill a borehole well in order to improve water access independence and life quality in rural areas. Because of climate change, rain is not as regular as before and Madagascan farmers have to walk for over 6 kms to find water in their daily life. Thanks to the borehole, MAIS Onlus enables local farmers to cultivate even during the dry season improving a sustainable source of revenue. Not only the farm will benefit from the well but also the farmers who will have access to drinkable water. The well will allow to have water all year round, to plant and gather 100 kgs of vegetables per month, to plant rice even during the dry season and to gather 9 tons of it, to increase the farmland by doubling it, from 80 to 160 square meters. We will help this project by 1.860 € as they had 40 votes in total.

RELIABLE WATER SUPPLIES

Oxfam - 9/30/2016

Domain of action : Food self-sufficiency

Description:

People cannot access water in rural Kenya when routine maintenance and repair work is not done, ultimately leading to failure of vital infrastructure. In Kenya, an estimated 40 per cent of water is supplied but not paid for, predominantly because customers do not receive bills or there is lack of follow up with those who do not pay. This project is supporting five local water providers to effectively manage and maintain water systems, improving the quality of the water supply for over 100,000 people in Turkana and Wajir. We will help this project by 1,860 € as they had 40 votes in total.
